Training Opportunities

My Own Little Island and Its Alter of 5 Cent Wishes
CAPS provides training opportunities for students who are in Masters or Doctoral Programs in Psychology or related fields*. The training program is designed to help predoctoral practicum students and masters level interns increase their clinical competence as psychotherapists in a university setting. Trainees engage in a variety of professional activities typical of a college counseling environment. These activities include:
- Conducting intake assessments
- Providing individual, couple and group psychotherapy to undergraduate and graduate students
- Providing psychoeducational workshops to members of the SU community
- Participation in national mental health screening days and other outreach efforts on campus
- Providing consultations and crisis intervention services for university students, staff and faculty.
- Attending and participating in departmental and divisional inservice trainings
- Participation in case presentations and consultations.
- Preparation and participation in clinical supervision with licensed staff members.
Eligibility Requirements
- Enrollment in doctoral or masters level programs
- Have approval from the program
- Willingness to make a 10-month, 20-hours per week commitment
* This training program is NOT designed to meet requirements for a traditional pre-doctoral internship.

For full consideration, submit the following application materials by April 1, 2009.
- A letter of intent with a description of your interest in Seattle University CAPS Training Program
- Documentation from your program delineating the requirements of a placement.
- A current resume.
- Three reference letters, including one from a person who has direct knowledge of your counseling skills.
