A New Chapter Begins
Seattle University welcomed a full house to Connolly Center to celebrate the success of its capital campaign and share the big news of the day: the university will break ground on the McGoldrick Learning Commons and Lemieux Library renovation in June 2009—a full year ahead of schedule.
"We are making a difference not only in Seattle and around Puget Sound but in the world," President Stephen Sundborg, S.J., said at the breakfast, emceed by Susan Hutchison and featuring keynote speaker Greg Mortenson, author of the best-selling book, Three Cups of Tea.
The event attracted a who's who from the private and public sectors, including King County Executive Ron Sims, former Governor Dan Evans and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Terry Bergeson.
Father Sundborg thanked the many who have contributed to the campaign—more than 46,000 gifts totaling $137 million.
"The legacy of Seattle University is the difference we make and it's also the promise of our future," he said.
