It was palpable in the air—the energy and excitement, the profound sense of action and momentum. More than 500 alumni and friends of Seattle University filled Connolly Center on April 10, to celebrate the start of the public phase of the capital campaign.
Thanks to the generosity of so many, we have raised more than $137 million toward our goal of $160 million. We are set to break ground on the Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons project in June 2009, one year ahead of schedule. We are reaching and surpassing goals to enhance our academics, faculty scholarship, Jesuit-Catholic identity and facilities.
The theme of the campaign, For the Difference We Make, epitomizes the work we strive to do in educating, nurturing and preparing our students to make a difference in their chosen fields, in their communities and in the world. To the extent that we succeed in having a meaningful impact in their lives, so will they make a difference in the lives of others. This is important work. As strong as we are today, we must continue to reach for a new, higher level of performance, achievement and service.
I encourage you to participate in this wide-ranging, truly transformative effort. The success of the Campaign for Seattle University speaks to the momentum building as we start a new chapter that all of you are helping to write.
With your continued support, we will achieve the objectives of this campaign, which promises a new level of service and excellence as we fulfill our mission as the premier independent university of the Northwest.
