Italian Dolomites Expedition

The 2009 EQ course with Italian Dolomites Expedition is scheduled for August 31st through Septmeber 5th, which gives participants who want to do the Italy Study Tour in Sansepolcro a couple days between those programs. The cost of the expedition will be $1450 per person, which includes 5 days of food and lodging, ground transportation from Bolzano to the mountains and back, and materials. The course will also involve 4 class meetings during the Intersession on campus prior to leaving for Italy. If you are also planning to do the Italy Study Tour in Sansepolcro, we will help you get from Bolzano to Sansepolcro.

Course Outline

Expedition Itinerary

August 31 Meet in Bolzano at the Hotel Figl. Dinner meeting this evening including a classroom module and preparation for departure in the morning for Seis.
September 1 After breakfast travel together by bus to Seis am Schlern (Siusi al Sciliar), checking into the Hotel Siusi (Seiserhof). Hiking module after lunch (lunch at hotel) to Kastelruth with return to Seis in late afternoon. Dinner at hotel, followed by a Classroom module in the evening.
September 2 Classroom meeting after breakfast, followed by ascent to the Seiser Alm region via gondola. Hiking module to the Tierser-Alpl-Hutte (Rifugio Alpe di Tires), breaking for lunch en route. Stay overnight at the Tierser-Alpl-Hutte. Dinner and after dinner module at the Tierser-Alpl-Hutte.
September 3 Full day in the high country, including hiking over to the legendary Schlernhaus for lunch, and returning to the Tierser-Alpl Hutte for dinner and post dinner classroom module and relaxation. Spend our second night up in the Tierser-Alpl-Hutte.
September 4 Return hike to Seis, arriving late in the day. Closing celebration dinner at the hotel.
September 5 Bus from Seis to Bolzano, and train from Bolzano back to Bologna. Return to Seattle or to points beyond in Europe (flight timing will likely require spending a night in Europe for return flights to Seattle).
