<<Previous Albers Brief, Fall 2001

ASBE has been fortunate to receive the enthusiastic support of many alumni and friends.

We are excited about our strategic planning process. The front-page article explains why. We have gathered some of the most talented people associated with ASBE to represent our various stakeholder groups. We are guided by two exceptional facilitators who have brought us a process that has everyone engaged and energized. With this alignment, we are confident we will emerge with a plan that is the right one for the business school at “a great comprehensive Jesuit Catholic university of the Northwest.” In case you don’t recognize it, that is the strategic vision for the university.

Our strategic plan is going to allow us to take the Albers School to a higher level, but it is important to remember that we are already a very good business school. One of the reasons for our success is the support we receive from alumni, businesses, and other stakeholders. This support comes in the form of financial contributions, internships for our students, jobs for our graduates, mentors for our Mentor Program, and recommendations to prospective students that ASBE has a great business program.

Now is a good time to be thanking our supporters, because their support is not something we can take for granted. We are very grateful to all our financial supporters, but especially grateful to those who have been able to give at the levels highlighted on page three of this edition. Your contributions provide essential resources to the school, with most of them used to support the two most essential ingredients—strong faculty and excellent students. Scholarship funding that allows us to attract and retain excellent students and contributions for faculty development that are used to attract and retain talented faculty have been absolutely essential to our success.

We have been very fortunate to count many exceptional individuals as supporters of ASBE. Two are highlighted on the front page. Genevieve Albers, who passed away in December, had been a long time supporter of ASBE and she will always be remembered for her keen interest in improving the quality of the school. Jim Sinegal is President and CEO of Costco Wholesale and has served as Chairman of the Seattle University trustees. Costco has been a strong supporter of ASBE, providing internships, jobs to graduates, mentors for our Mentor Program, and scholarships through the Costco Scholarship Program. We were very fortunate to be able to nominate Jim Sinegal for the Beta Gamma Sigma award he will receive. Running a very successful business with the highest ethical standards, he is a very worthy recipient of this honor.

Yes, ASBE has been fortunate to receive the enthusiastic support of so many alumni and friends. It has helped us get to where we are today. We will emerge from our strategic planning process with a new vision that will take us to a higher level. That journey will require a higher level of external support, and we are confident it will be there for us.
