Dean's Message

“Preparing leaders for a just and humane world has been a constant theme for Seattle University and the Albers School...”

2005 is an anniversary year for the Albers School. Established in 1945, we have been molding ethical and socially responsible business leaders for 60 years. Over the past academic year, over 250 students earned their graduate business degree and nearly 300 received their undergraduate business degree from Seattle University. We are very proud of these students and expect great things from them. We have worked hard to turn them into the ethical and socially responsible leaders our mission statement calls for.

This was also the 50th anniversary of our Alpha Kappa Psi chapter, which continues to be a very active and vital organization on our campus. Our Volunteers in Tax Assistance program, which you have read about in previous editions of the Albers Brief marked its 30th anniversary with 50 students and eight alumni volunteers completing 582 tax returns for area residents. This was also the 15th anniversary of our director, Steve Brilling, and the award for a $90,000 grant from the Jones Foundations to support the Entrepreneurship Clinic. Finally, it was also the 15th anniversary of our Mentor Program. This year, 120 mentors guided 270 of our students, providing them valuable advice and counsel.

Preparing leaders for a just and humane world has been a constant theme for Seattle University and the Albers School, and you will find it brought to life in this edition of the Brief. Both current and future leaders are featured. Stories on Stan McNaughton, Sally Jewell, and Gary Reed give insight on our current leaders. Stories on Marion Gallagher, Jason Hershey, Krystal Duncan, and our SBI students show us our future.

As always, we welcome your feedback. Please email me at phillipsj@seattleu.edu
