Albers Brief, Summer 2004
Dean's Message
“We are delivering on academic excellence, with great teaching and strong scholarship.”
A key strength for the Albers Schools is our outstanding faculty. We have very high Expectations for them. We want them to be great teachers who are well versed in their disciplines. We have always had plenty of great feedback about their classroom skills. This comes by way of student course evaluations and feedback from alumni, or student exit surveys that are benchmarked against other schools. But what evidence do we have about their success as scholars? After all, we don’t have a PhD program, so how can our faculty really contribute to their disciplines?
Well, now we know they are making a difference with their research. A recent effort by three Canadian schools called the Business Research Project ranked business schools worldwide on the basis of scholarship. The ranking was done by looking at faculty publications in 31 top business journals. The Albers School did very well, far better than many observers would have expected. For example, of the thousands of business schools out there, we were tied for 172nd, putting us in the top 10% of all business schools. Among the schools, we ranked sixth (trailing only Boston College, Georgetown, Marquette, Santa Clara, and Fordham). That is great company to keeping!
Many schools describe their commitment to Academic Excellence. At the Albers School, we are delivering on academic excellence, with great teaching and strong scholarship. And we have the evidence to prove it!
