Dean's Message

This past year was a very successful one for the Albers School. We focused much of our energy on implementing the strategic plan developed a year ago. We made excellent progress on updating our curriculum and personnel practices with respect to faculty and staff. We also took major steps in strengthening our ties with our alumni. An alumni board was formed and became very active in its first year. Our Crab Feed in March and alumni golf tournament in September were big successes - you will not want to miss them next year. These events are bringing our alums back and reconnecting them with the school.

Throughout the year our students and alumni heard from top business leaders who visited campus. These included Charlie Munger, Vice Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, Kerry Killinger, CEO of Washington Mutual, John Connors, CFO of Microsoft, Tom Falk, CEO of Kimberly Clark, Jim Sinegal, CEO of Costco Wholesale, Peter Rose, CEO of Expeditors, and Fran Conley, CEO of Cutter and Buck. Each of these leaders did an excellent job of sharing their insights and wisdom, and those in attendance always went away excited about what had been learned. We plan to continue to bring in leaders of this caliber, and this year we will hear from Alan Mulally, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Mike Phillips, CEO of Frank Russell, and Gary Brinson, an Albers alum and investment legend.

A constant at the Albers School has been our outstanding faculty and staff. They continue to provide the rigorous education and personal attention that has long characterized our program. Stories about Colette Frayne, Barbara Parker and Greg Magnan in this edition are just many that could be told to illustrate the excellence of our faculty and staff. It is no wonder that we expect our largest incoming class ever this fall - students can see the value of an Albers education!
