"Some of the things I really
liked about the MSF program are that the classes used real-life
examples as much as possible, which was a positive change from my
undergraduate degree in France. The teachers really
encouraged participation and team work- I was often assigned a
project with other people, which is what I do at Microsoft all the
time.
My philosophy about education is
that it should teach you, above all, how to address problems vs.
teaching specific knowledge. In my mind, the most important
skills I learned in school were to be able to frame a problem,
identify variables, put together an action plan, achieve a result,
and learn from my mistakes. Things change all the time and we are
confronted with new situations every day at Microsoft. The key
is to be able to think through a problem. In most cases we will
have to figure out a solution that is new - one that couldn't have
been taught in school a few years before."
