Why a Finance Major?
Finance is the study of where households, firms and other
institutions, get their money and how they decide to invest it. There are
three primary sub fields:
Financial institutions and markets: banks, credit unions,
insurance companies.
Investments: stocks, bonds, portfolio management.
Financial management: private firm/government entity.
All Finance majors should know:
Math, statistics, accounting, and economics: those areas
that are analytical and quantitative. Successful finance majors must be
resourceful and tenacious, as well as comfortable with risk taking.
Skills that Finance majors develops:
Quantitative analysis techniques, negotiation and
interpersonal skills, analysis of financial statements, predicting market
trends, financial planning techniques, valuation skills, negotiation, and computer skills.
