About Albers

Albers Business School Mentor Program
Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?

The event is open to graduate students and undergraduate seniors in the Albers School of Business and Economics.

How should I dress?

The dress is business casual.

Will refreshments be provided?

Heavy appetizers and beverages will be served.

Should I bring resumes and/or cover letters?

You do not need to bring resumes or cover letters to the Mentor Fair. The evening is designed for you to establish initial relationships and determine which mentors are best suited to your career interests and will aid in your professional development.

How should I prepare for the Mentor Fair?

For more information about the mentors, go to:

http://www.seattleu.edu/asbe/apc/mentor/mentors/default.asp

If you are not familiar with a company, research the company online or check in the files in the Placement Center. Come prepared with questions for each mentor you intend to speak with to help you determine which mentors you would like to work with.

Where will the interviews be held and how long will they last?

Mentors will be assigned to specific classrooms in the Pigott Building during the Mentor Fair. You can meet with each mentor that you are interested in. We recommend 10 - 15 minutes max per mentor.

How do I select a mentor?

At the end of the evening, we will ask you to complete the Mentor Selection Form identifying five mentors with whom you would be interested in working with. You will receive a group assignment and a mentor placement by mid October. In general, the ratio of students to mentor is 3:1.

Do I need to RSVP for the event?

No, you can just show up.

If I cannot attend the Mentor Fair, can I still participate in the mentor program?

Absolutely. Make sure that you complete the Mentor Selection Ballot for Sr. Undergrads or the Mentor Selection Ballot for Grad Students and fax or email it to the Placement Center by Friday, October 12, 2007.  There will also be a Student Make-up Orientation on Tuesday, October 16 from 4:30-6pm in Pigott 103 for those students who could not attend the event on October 5.

Once I have received my mentor placement, what should I do next?

The first thing is to contact your group and select a group leader. Discuss when you can meet and what things you would like to discuss with your mentor. The group leader should then contact the mentor and arrange the first meeting. You will want to set up your initial visit in November. At that time, bring a personal profile for your mentor that includes work history, education, interests and ambitions.

What is the agenda for the evening?

6:00 - 6:30 pm - Informal Reception with Mentors, Faculty and Staff
6:30 - 6:45 pm - Program - Parade of Mentors
6:45 - 8:00 pm - Networking Sessions with Mentors
8:00 - 8:30 pm - Mentor Fair Concludes - Students select mentors

If you have further questions, please give the Albers Placement Center a call at 206.296.5687 or email pc-asbe@seattleu.edu. We look forward to seeing you.
