The Academy of Management Annual Meeting took place in Seattle August 1-6,
2003. It hosted a record number of attendees - approximately 6,800! Barb Parker chaired the Local Arrangements
Committee and garnered a lot of recognition for Albers. The executive director of the AOM said: The annual meeting in Seattle was carried through with perfection. In fact, we would say that it was one of the best-managed annual meetings ever. High attendance and smooth operations were combined with one of the most successful community service projects ever conducted and one of the largest contributions to a local charity.
Dr. Parker
was quoted in an article on April 28,
2003, "Starbucks acquisition:
grounds for concern?" published in
the Daily Journal of Commerce.
Barb Parker will testify before a State House sub-committee on September 23rd,
2002 addressing the topic of globalization.
Barbara Parker was selected as one of four Academy of Management Service-Learning Fellows. The Academy of Management is the largest association of business management professors and other professions, counting over 12,000 members.
(from AlbersBrief, Winter 2001)
Barbara Parker, associate professor of management, has written
a textbook, Globalization and Business Practice: Managing Across Boundaries,
which has been published by Sage Publications, London, November 1998, and is now
in it's second edition.
The 655-page paperback, available in the SU bookstore, uses
creative examples, case studies, and exercises to demonstrate how global trends
relate to each other and to business and organizations. Parker examines new
technologies, new markets, and cultural and political changes that students need
to consider in management.
