Dr Carlos Mello-e-Souza, Accounting Professor, was born in Baltimore, brought
up in Brazil, and brings a wide variety of experiences to the classroom.
Carlos comes to academia by way of completing his MBA and his PhD at Cornell
University. He spent years in Brazil evaluating companies and projects,
later building Exxon's forecasting system, and finally serving as CFO for Coca
Cola in Brazil. His research passion is in the area of asset pricing
anomalies and he has taught at Insead in France and at Penn State.
When you take a class with Professor Mello-e-Souza, you will find that he is
friendly and approachable, but strict. Carlos has fully experienced the
unforgiving nature of the business world and seeks to prepare SU students to be
successful in that environment. He expects students to be honest,
hard-working, punctual, to prepare for class and complete reading assignments
ahead of time, and to participate in class. Carlos is very passionate
about his research and the practical side of business. He desires to help
students find and define their interests and to be productive, contributing
members of society.
When off campus, Carlos enjoys sailing and spending time with his family.
He hopes to own a sailboat one day. Family time includes favorite pastimes
like fishing and sailing with his wife and 3 and 1/2 year old son.
