Professional History:
Dr. Frayne is a tenured full Professor of International Business and Human Resource Management at Cal Polys College of Business, where she teaches courses in international business management and international human resource management. She also serves as faculty advisor for the A.I.E.S.E.C. international internship program as well as the International Management Concentration. From September 2003-2005, She is serving as the Thomas F. Gleed Chair of Business Administration in the Albers School of Business in Seattle University, Seattle Washington. In addition, She is a Managing Partner in an international management consulting company where she is actively involved in international management consulting and executive development activities in North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. Her clients include a variety of domestic and multinational organizations, including several Fortune 500 and Fortune Global 500 organizations.
Dr. Frayne earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Delaware, an M.B.A. from the University of San Diego, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Washington. In addition to Cal Poly, she has taught at the University of Western Ontario (Canada); Texas Christian University (USA); University of Washington (USA); University of Delaware (USA); Institut Pengembangan Manajemen Indonesia (Jakarta); Lajos Kossuth University (Hungary); the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration (Helsinki & Mikkeli, Finland); Monterey Institute of International Studies (USA), Poznan School of Banking (Poland); and Bond University (Australia).
Her teaching, research, and consulting interests have focused on issues of human resource management, self-management, power & influence and organizational change, particularly in international joint ventures and alliances. Dr. Frayne authored a book and approximately 70 published papers and case studies. Her research has received several best paper awards from various organizations, including the George and Sara McCune Best Paper Award from the Journal of Group and Organization Management. My research has appeared in such journals as Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Education, and the Journal of International Management. She currently serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of World Business, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Academy of Management Executive, and Journal of Management Inquiry and served as a Co-Chair of the Teaching Committee for the International Management Division of the Academy of Management.
Dr. Frayne is active in service to her profession. She is a member of the Universitys Athletics Governing Board and have served on the University Research Grants Award Committee. She received the Deans Emeritus Award for faculty teaching, research and service excellence in 1994 and 1999 as well as two prestigious awards from the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology for her research in the area of self-management. She received the Deans Team distinction for teaching excellence each year from 1987-1992 at the University of Western Ontario, and received the Deans List commendation for teaching excellence and the Global Perfection Award for teaching in 2001. She was nominated for Cal Polys University Distinguished Teacher Award in 1997 and 1998, and she received the University Distinguished Teacher Award in 1999.
In addition to assisting various non-profit organizations on human resource management and training and development issues, her consulting and management development activities have enabled her to work with numerous private and public sector organizations, including executives from Nokia Oy; Eastman Kodak; Cisco; Agilent Technologies; Hewlett Packard; Caterpillar; ITT Sheraton; California Highway Patrol; Rautaruukki Oy; Eastman Chemical Company; Digital Equipment Corporation; AT&T; DuPont; Ericsson; Polartest Oy; DHL Courier International; Corporate Image; Ernst & Young; Valio Oy; Ontario Ministry of Industry Trade and Technology; and other small and large organizations. She has also been involved in numerous university and corporate executive education activities in Canada, the U.S., Australia, Europe, and Asia.
In September 2003, she accepted the Thomas F.Gleed Chair of Business Adminstration in the Albers School of Business and Economics, Seattle University, Seattle Washington, USA. She will hold this position through June 2005.
