Banchero Friends Services provides supported living services to adults with developmental disabilities. We are a small non-profit serving 24 adults. A need we have identified is having someone to provide fitness coaching, instruction, and motivation for our clients. People with developmental disabilities are more vulnerable than the average population to a number of health conditions. We want to do everything we can to avert the preventable ones. Fitness interns in the past have been very successful in getting our folks moving. The position is 10 hours per week and does pay a stipend ($9.19 per hour). This is an un-paid position, but the intern will gain vital experience through performing daily responsibilities which include: assisting in the setup, implementation, and breakdown of team training sessions (11 intercollegiate sports); daily maintenance of the training environment; learning proper technique and others coaching skills critical to the profession. JOB SUMMARY: This internship will allow the selected student to share the experience of managing a program for geriatric patients with a diverse array of needs. One of the primary goals of the internship is to make residents more aware of the array of teaching styles and techniques available when participating in exercise programs. The internship would allow the student to accumulate observation hours for physical therapy school as well as gain experience doing personal training, exercise testing, and group fitness.
