Welcome from the Director
 Welcome to the Social Work Program website. The field of Social Work is one of the most dynamic, versatile and rewarding professions in today’s world. Social Work requires the combination of values, knowledge and skills to collaborate, advocate, and assist diverse people and communities. A bachelor degree in social work from Seattle University prepares graduates to enter the field as competent generalist practitioners committed to social and economic justice. We expect our graduates to make a difference in the world through ethical leadership redressing social inequities.
Our accredited Program offers challenging and engaging courses, dynamic professors, and excellent field placement opportunities with experienced supervisors in local social service agencies. Students join a learning community comprised of a peer cohort, faculty, staff, and social work professionals. Social Work faculty are active scholars and practitioners with a variety of areas of interest and expertise who offer leadership in the profession.
Our graduates tell us that they felt “known” by their professors and personally mentored while pursing their degree. To this end we have small class sizes, accessible professors, and emphasize the hallmarks of a Jesuit education which is formation of the whole person to become “men and women for others”. In addition, we have three strong practice courses including use of a state of the art counseling lab, community –based service learning projects, and civic engagement experiences. Our rigorous research sequence culminates in students evaluating a component of the practice and presenting their results to our social work learning community. Our graduates can be found working in local nonprofit organizations, attending graduate schools across the country and volunteering nationally or internationally with such organizations as Jesuit Volunteers, Peace Corp, Teach for America and Catholic Relief Services.
