411080The major in public affairs welcomes motivated students interested in policy-making, planning, community service and advocacy in public and nonprofit organizations. The Bachelor of Arts in Public Affairs integrates the mission of Seattle University through its focus on social justice and dedication to "empowering leaders for a just and humane world."

Public Affairs majors will:

  • Develop the perspectives, skills, and abilities necessary to make a difference in the public sector;
  • Learn about public policy, management and organizational leadership, financial controls, and research methods;
  • Choose a Policy Pathway in an area of particular interest including:
    • Urban Affairs
    • Nonprofit Leadership
    • Environmental Studies
    • Criminal Justice
    • Social Policy
    • International Studies (study abroad options are available) 
    • or create your own policy pathway;
  • Undertake an internship experience with a public or nonprofit organization to develop your professional skills, apply your classroom studies to the “real world,” and create networks and contacts for future employment and;
  • Utilize Academic Service-Learning to explore a real policy issue or management problem a government or nonprofit agency is experiencing.
