Pre-Education Advising

At Seattle University, Pre-Education is not a specific major or program of study. Instead, it is an advising resource available to help students explore career options in education and pathways to teaching. Pre-Education Advisors are available to assist you from the early stages of career discernment to the time you are ready to apply to teacher certification programs.

Pre-Education Advising seeks to help entering freshmen, current students, transfer students and alumni prepare for graduate-level teacher certification, Master in Teaching programs and teaching careers through academic advising and programming. Specifically, the program is designed to assist those who are considering teaching at the Preschool through12th Grade level.

The materials contained on this website are only part of the advising available for Pre-Education. Face-to-face interaction is the primary method for advising. If you are interested in a teaching career, you are encouraged to meet with a Pre-Education advisor, in addition to any online research you undergo.

Prospective and Current SU Students and Alumni work with a Pre-Education advisor to:

  • Engage in the discernment process of whether or not to pursue a career in teaching
  • Explore programs of study and extra-curricular activities that help prepare for a career in teaching
  • Understand/explore state and local teacher certification requirements
  • Identify courses that satisfy entrance requirements for graduate-level teacher preparation and certification programs
  • Develop a timeline for applying to graduate-level teacher preparation and certification programs
  • Research resources that help with WEST-B and WEST-E skills test preparation
