The MNPL faculty have expertise in state-of-the-art theory and practice of not-for-profit leadership. They include scholars and practitioners of communications, marketing, advocacy, fundraising and management who offer an insider's perspective on the nonprofit sector. The "personal touch" is cited by students as a hallmark of our program.

Professors
Michael Bisesi, Ed.D., Professor and Director of the Executive Master of Not-For-Profit Leadership Program, formerly served as Managing Director of Program Services at the Greater Houston Community Foundation and Senior Vice President of the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast. His higher education experience includes service as Associate Dean of the College of Business
Administration at the University of Houston. Professor Bisesi teaches Introduction of the Nonprofit Sector, and the Summary Project class.
Noreen Elbert, Ed.D., Visiting Assistant Professor, formerly served as Coordinator for Seattle University's Institute of Public Service and Center for Nonprofit Leadership. In addition, she spent more than 15 years working in leadership positions within the nonprofit sector. Her research interests focus on nonprofit executive director leadership issues, most specifically support. Professor Elbert teaches Leadership and Interpersonal Behavior.

Yvonne Harrison, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, has experience in the health and sports sectors. She has a research interest in volunteerism and information and communications technology. Other research interests include the new governance environment in which organizations now operate including public-private partnerships and e-business management challenges. Professor Harrison teaches the Summary Project class.

Leanna "Lee" Holmer, Ph.D., Associate Professor, has more than 20 years in management and consulting capacities with government and nonprofit organizations. Her current research focuses on emotional development in leadership and organizational health, and on strategies for teaching leadership, team and management skills. Professor Holmer teaches Leading Staff.

Jim Sawyer, Ph.D., Associate Professor, has held the Louis B. Gaffney Chair of Arts and Sciences at Seattle University, and teaching and administrative appointments at West Virginia University and Oregon State University. He is currently working with an international consortium of public and private institutions focused upon innovation and the diffusion of information technology, particularly to economically marginalized populations. Professor Sawyer teaches Management Analysis and Control.

Adjunct Professors
Janet Boguch, M.A., Adjunct Professor, is owner and principal of Non-Profit Works, a nonprofit management and organization development consulting firm. She is a faculty member at the University of Washington's Fund Raising Management Certificate Program. Professor Boguch teaches Resource Development for Nonprofit Organizations.

William H. Braswell, Jr., M.A., Adjunct Professor, brings more than ten years of consulting, teaching and managing experience in the field of total quality, systems improvement, and organizational effectiveness. For several years he was Vice President of Corporate Quality at Premera Blue Cross, one of the region's largest health insurance companies. Professor Braswell teaches Service Quality Leadership .

Suzanne Lagoni, B.A., Adjunct Professor, is a communications consultant with 30 years experience. She has been a journalist, Communications Director for a U.S. Senator, as well as worked in corporate communications. Professor Lagoni co-teaches Strategic Marketing for Nonprofit Organizations.

Nancy Lee, M.B.A., Adjunct Professor, is the president of Social Marketing Services, Inc. a firm specializing in marketing research, advertising and communications for public agencies and nonprofit organizations. She was previously Director of Marketing for Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle and Vice President and Director of Marketing for Rainier Bank and Security Pacific Bank. Professor Lee co-teaches Strategic Marketing for Nonprofit Organizations.

Kathleen Pierce, J.D. Adjunct Professor, currently serves as board member and public policy advisor for Philanthropy Northwest and as trustee-manager of a family foundation. She is also an attorney, self-employed investor, and past chair of the Municipal League of King County. Professor Pierce teaches Public Policy, Advocacy, and Collaboration.

Jane Reisman, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor, is the founder and president of Organizational Research Services, a national leader in outcome based planning and evaluation. Professor Resiman teaches Program Evaluation.
Cheryl Sesnon, MNPL, Adjunct Professor, specializes in social enterprise training and consulting. Her consulting services include social enterprise development, strategic and business planning, marketing, and volunteer and board management. Professor Sesnon teaches Planning.

Michael John Shadow, JCD, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor, is a well-known presentation and media coach specializing in persuasive communication by public and private sector leaders throughout the world. Professor Shadow teaches Persuasive Communications for Nonprofit Executives.
