Visual Arts Professor Francisco Guerrero is featured in "Chamber Music," the newest exhibit at Seattle's Frye Art Museum. Guerrero is one of 36 artists commissioned to create new work in response to musical compositions based on James Joyce's volume of poetry of the same name.
Guerrero's piece La Bufadora (chica), for poem XXXV of James Joyce's Chamber Music is an interpretation of the 35th, and penultimate, verse of the Joyce collection. The watercolor places the viewer underneath the Pacific Ocean, taking the sadness and yearning found in poem XXXV and the atmospheric melancholy of the correlating song, performed by Australian psychedelic rock band Lovetones.
The exhibition also includes a living library archiving the artists' contributions as curators, critics, academics, theoreticians, writers, civic organizers, and founders or members of important artist cooperatives and independent exhibition spaces.
"Chamber Music" runs from February 9 - May 5, 2013. The Frye Gallery is free and open to the public.
Guerrero, who received his MFA from the University of California at San Diego, joined the faculty in 2002. He teaches painting and drawing and exhibits in venues throughout the world, including Japan and Mexico.
