NAWCHE is an organization made up of faculty, administrators, staff, and students from Catholic colleges and universities. The association works to connect women's studies departments at Catholic colleges and universities with other women's studies programs to facilitate support, newtorking opportunities to share ideas, gain new insights, and build solidarity.
NAWCHE has found a new home at Seattle University under the leadership of NAWCHE’s new director, Dr. Mary-Antoinette Smith. As some of you know, SU expressed an earnest interest in assuming the role of home institution for NAWCHE at our conference held in New York at St. John’s University this past June. Since then, SU NAWCHE leaders have worked with Sharlene Hesse-Biber, Executive Director, and Kim Bachechi in establishing a transition timeline for NAWCHE’s move from its historic Boston College founding home. Find out more information about the move in the Spring 2009 Newsletter.
The National Association for Women in Catholic Higher Education held its ninth Making Connections conference at St. John's University, New York. Entitled, "Building Global Connections: Envisioning Women's Studies and Women's Issues in an International Context," the conference featured speakers Aishah Shahidah Simmons and Liza Featherstone.
