On September 21, 2011 twelve students in the Sport Administration and Leadership program began their Sport Event Management class. Their task was to plan and create a charity event that would benefit the community and provide a lifelong learning experience. After considering many options, the Bring on the Sun Run 5k came into being. Guided by the mission of supporting the physical activity, health and wellness of Seattle youth, the SeattleU graduate students decided to partner with the Rotary Boys and Girls Club.

The students enrolled in the class had the opportunity to gain real world experience by securing sponsorships, organizing ad campaigns and coordinating volunteers and logistics on the day of the race.

It was a challenging, yet rewarding experience to conceptualize and build a unique 5k run from "start to finish." The students know they have set into motion a lasting tradition that will benefit the youth of Seattle and provide future MSAL students with an event they will be proud to continue.
