Graduate Assistantships - Internal 
(Paid Positions)

These “hands-on” positions in the Seattle University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics encourage leadership, develop communication and managerial skills, and establish an important professional network.

General Qualifications

Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with computer skills using various Microsoft applications are required; degree and career interest in communications, sports management or a related field; experience working in a collegiate athletic department preferred; experience working with collegiate sports coaching staffs preferred; personal competitive experience or knowledge of sports helpful; must be willing to work evenings and weekends; minimum time commitment of 20 hours per week.

General Information

Graduate assistantships may begin August 1 (or later depending on program) and end no later May 30. Graduate assistant positions pay $1,300-$1,500 per month for the 10-month term. Graduate assistants are responsible for their own tuition payments.

2013-2014 Graduate Assistantship Positions:

Athletics Communications (Sports Information) - (NOT YET OPEN)

  • Provide sports information support to designated teams;
  • Assist in multimedia tool development for website; and
  • Supervise undergraduate student manager staff.
  • Provide assistance for media relations, website maintenance (Titan), publications, events, internal communications, public information, publicity and promotional activities.
  • Responsibilities include support activities related to production of media guides, game programs, and news releases; maintenance of website, reader board, statistics, archives, and files.
  • Other duties will be assigned as needs are identified and based on individual interests and skills.

Women's Sports Marketing & Promotions (OPEN) 
Reports to Director of Fan Development

  • Plan and execute marketing and promotional plans for women's sports  (women's basketball, women's soccer, volleyball, softball)
  • Provide group ticket sales support for women's sports (particularly women's basketball)
  • Work game day ticket sales booth for women's soccer and volleyball
  • Assist in executing the fulfillment of the corporate/game sponsorship agreements and manage all in-game elements and promotional campaigns
  • Collaborate with game management staff on marketing and promotional efforts for games, including scheduling Ball Kids, National Anthem and Color Guard talent
  • Collaborate with the Director of Fan Development and other campus constituents to drive attendance.
  • Solicit on-campus support for athletics (students, faculty-staff) for women's sports
  • Contribute to executing successful Student Rewards Program and increased student attendance
  • Supervise undergraduate student promotions staff 

Men's Sports Marketing and Promotions (FILLED)
Reports to Director of Game Day Experience and Operations

  • Plan and execute marketing and promotional plans for men's basketball, men's soccer and baseball.
  • Provide ticket group ticket sales support for men's soccer and baseball
  • Assist in executing the fulfillment of the corporate/game sponsorship agreements and manage all in-game elements and promotional campaigns.  
  • Collaborate with Director of Game Operations on marketing and promotional efforts for games, including scheduling Ball Kids, National Anthem and Color Guard talent
  • Solicit on-campus support for athletics (students, faculty-staff) for men's sports
  • Lead the effort toward executing successful Student Rewards Program and increased student attendance
  • Supervise undergraduate student promotions staff
  • Stage Manager for Men's Basketball production  

Sports Medicine/Athletic Training (OPEN)

  • Provide athletic training support for designated programs;
  • Act as member of sports medicine team to provide optimal care and support; and
  • Supervise undergraduate student athletic training staff.
  • ATC required.

Strength and Conditioning (FILLED)

  • Provide assistance with all aspects of strength and conditioning department.
  •  Responsibilities include, but not limited to: assist head strength and conditioning coach in all aspects of developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for 17 intercollegiate athletic teams.
  •  Work with both men’s and women’s sports as assigned by head strength and conditioning coach.
  •  Provide proper techniques associated with strength and speed development, and attend to the daily maintenance of the training facility and equipment.
  •  SCCC or CSCS recommended.

Ticket Operations Coordinator (OPEN)
Reports to the Director of Fan Development

  • Execute Archtics Ticketmaster processes for day-to-day operations of the Redhawk ticket office (account management, inventory control, game-day reporting/deposits)
  • Assist in designing and executing men's & women's basketball, men's & women's soccer, volleyball and baseball sales campaigns and special promotions
  • Assist in supporting front line sales and customer service outreach
  • KeyArena Box Office lead for all men's basketball games. Work ticket sales booth on game day for all other ticketed sports.
  • Assist Director of Fan Development in executing distribution of E-News and GameDay Email communication

Student-Athlete Support/Academics (OPEN)

  • Mentor and track academic progress of student-athletes (2-3 team assignments)
  • Develop Life Skills Programming (ex. Student-Athlete Orientation, Athletics Award Show, Academic and Career Workshops)
  • Assist with academic reports (class absence documentation, progress reporting, etc)
  • Assist with advising Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC)
  • Coordinate the community service opportunities with Rotary Boys & Girls Club and Seattle U Youth Initiative

Game Day Experience (OPEN) 
Reports to Director of Game Day Experience and Operations

  • Provide assistance with all aspects of game day operations and logistics
  • Responsibilities include, pre-game preparation, event timeline, permits and sanctions, event set-up, operations and breakdown
  • Oversight of event scheduling, use by outside rental clients and execution of contracted responsibilities by outside vendors
  • Manage third party hospitality for visiting teams and officials
  • Maintenance of equipment inventory and procurement and transport of event supplies and equipment
  • Recruitment, hiring, training and management of student event staff
  • Collaboration with Sports Marketing and Promotions graduate assistants on creative ideas and elements for enhanced game-day experience across all Seattle U events

Advancement and Donor Relations (OPEN)

External Assistantships with the University of Washington Athletic Department

We have created an affiliation with the University of Washington athletic department which will be offering the following internships/assistantships for 2013-2014. Some of these positions will be internships and some will be assistantships. Which will be which has not yet been determined. If you are accepted into the MSAL program you will be eligible to apply for the funded assistantship with UW athletics. Assistantship stipends range $500 - $2000 per quarter. You may also apply for the internships but they are not funded. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. 

  COMPLIANCE 
Assist with daily operations of UW Athletics Compliance office and Staff. Perform special projects as assigned.

  Requirements:   Student working towards a Master's Degree.

EVENT MANAGEMENT (Day of Game Operations)
Assists with day to day operations of UW Athletic Events and Staff.

  Requirements:   Student working towards a Master's Degree. Ability to work weekends and evenings.
Responsibilities:   Assist with scheduling of practices, games, meetings, special events and facility rentals. Create Logistics, manage payroll database and schedule event staff for all ICA events.

  OLYMPIC SPORTS

Assists Coaches and Staff with team operations, day of game preparations and donor/alumni events. Supports Program Coordinator with day to day office management. Contributes year-round social media support. Creates and implements special projects as assigned.

  Requirements:   Graduate Student pursuing a career in Sports Administration. General Microsoft Office experience, Photoshop or other editing programs. Comfortable learning internal database. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:   Assist with day to day operations of Olympic Sports events, creation of donor and alumni database, assist in travel arrangements for teams, management of social media platforms, coordination of team functions, and help STAFF with variety of duties.

Assists IMG Staff with all corporate sponsorship efforts on behalf of the athletic department.

  Requirements:   Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to make deadlines with proper follow through. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Power Point. Photoshop experience a plus. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:   Sales assistance (proposals, recaps, research) . Attend all 2013-14 Football games and some Men's Women's Basketball games. Photographer for game days. Assist with pre-game hospitality (Football and Men's Basketball). Miscellaneous office tasks (shipping, mail, office supplies, organization).

Assists in all aspects of operating an intercollegiate athletic ticket office, including interacting with donors, students and the general public. Supports staff in preparation of hosting NCAA Events.

Responsibilities:   Ticket office support including front line sales and customer service relations. Event box office and account management, and player guest admissions, inventory control.

  MARCHING BAND/CHEER

Assists with over all coordination, management of webpage and social media, day to day operations, fundraising event planning. MAY BE SPLIT INTO 2 INTERNSHIPS

  Requirements:   Current or incoming student, Graduate student preferred. Proficient in software applications (Photoshop, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Suite, etc), some accounting, event management and development. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:   Web content, creation, research and development. Outreach and conversation with staff, fans, alumni, donors, and members. Responsible for cultivation of web content best practices. Day to day business operations and travel arrangements. Special event planning and implementation of Fundraising management.

  MARKETING 
Assists UW Athletic Marketing department which includes game-day production and promotions for all 21 teams within Husky Athletics.

  Requirements:   Current or incoming undergraduate or graduate student. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:   Supporting IMG and sponsors in marketing agreements. Assists New Media team on selected web and social media efforts. Works with creating team on selected video production, motion graphic, and design elements. Arranges game day entertainment including National Anthem and Halftime performers.

  Requirements:   Communications under-grad. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interest in learning, or proven knowledge and skills with videography, photography, and the use of editing software. Social media savvy, must be detail-oriented, independent, self starter yet work as part of a team. Ability to work untraditional hours including evenings and weekends. Experience with photography and knowledge of athletics preferred yet not required.

 We have created an affiliation with the Seattle Mariners which will be offering the following assistantships for 2012-2013. There are two positions which start in August and last for a year. 

 Job Title: Client Sales and Services Associate 

 Department: Sales 

 Status: Part Time Job Share - 20 Hr/Week; Non-Exempt

 The Position

This is an entry-level, part time/job share position focused on outbound selling of group and season ticket packages for the Seattle Mariners.  In addition, the associate will provide exceptional customer service on general inbound calls and e-mail inquiries. The associate will be responsible for individual calling and ticket sales goals.  Top performing associates will be considered for transition to a full time sales opportunity within the Seattle Mariners organization.  This is a tremendous opportunity for a highly motivated individual who is ready to take their first step into a sports career. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Consistently delivers an extraordinary customer experience by actively engaging in exceptional product and service fulfillment. 
  •  Generates new ticket sales by calling targeted individuals, following-up on inbound leads, and building rapport with existing customers to identify up-sell opportunities. 
  •  Partners with Season Ticket, Group, and Premium Sales to capitalize on cross-departmental business opportunities. 
  •  Meets and frequently exceeds assigned calling and sales goals.  Combined outbound and inbound call goal will reach or exceed 100 calls per day.   
  •  Receives inbound phone calls regarding product sales and servicing, and general customer and season ticket holder inquiries.  Resolves customer inquiries in a professional and timely manner.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  •  4-year degree. 
  •  1-2 years experience working in sales or customer service, preferably in the professional sports, entertainment or hospitality industries. 
  •  Proven exceptional customer service skills including demonstrated ability to take decisive action and quickly resolve customer issues, problem solve, trouble shoot and answer questions.   Customer advocate who goes above and beyond to create customer delight. 
  •  Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
