MSAL Application
Graduate students must be enrolled at least part-time (three credits) to be considered for financial assistance; however for some scholarships, the student must be registered for at least 6 credits per quarter, excluding summer. There are three financial aid options available: student loans, scholarships, and graduate assistantships. Seattle University financial aid is not available for international students.
To be considered for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is your application for federal, state, and institutional funds. For further information, contact the Student Financial Services Office.
The Center for the Study of Sport & Exercise offers scholarships credited each quarter directly to your student account. The scholarships are offered based on financial need, current or prospective academic achievement, and current institutional service at Seattle University. In all cases, renewal is based on the specifics of the scholarships and satisfactory academic progress. All scholarships are financial resources and must be coordinated with other types of financial aid. You must notify the Financial Aid office of any scholarships you receive which do not appear on your original award letter and report whether the scholarships are renewable, so the office can automatically include it with your subsequent awards. Application for the MSAL Scholarship should be received by the MSAL program by February 15th. Applications will be accepted after that date, but there is no guarantee that scholarship money will still be available. The scholarship is a one-year award. Returning students must reapply for the scholarship for their second year.
To be considered for a scholarship, you must fully admitted (without restrictions) to the MSAL degree program and maintain a minimum of six (6) credits of coursework each quarter during the academic year and three (3) credits of coursework in summer.
Should your enrollment drop below these requirements, the scholarship will be reduced by a percent equal to the reduction in credits, charged against your student account, and any balance owed to the university will be your responsibility. In every instance, it is your responsibility to pay tuition no later than the published quarterly tuition due dates established by Seattle University.
You must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average in your graduate coursework to receive and/or retain a scholarship.
For applications based on financial need, a copy of the IRS 1040 (for U.S. citizens) or the Affidavit of Financial Support (for foreign residents) must be submitted along with a personal narrative that discusses your financial circumstances relative to the desired level of assistance. Students requesting a scholarship based on academic merit and/or university service do not need to provide documentation of financial status, but still need to submit a cover letter explaining why they deserve the aid.
The deadline for application is February 15th. Any applications received after that date will be considered contingent on availability of funds and acceptance into the MSAL program. The total amount of scholarship assistance is limited and it possible that no funds will be available at the time you apply. For 2013-2014, scholarships will range from $500-$5400, based on academic merit, service, and need, or any combination therein.

Limited need-based scholarships available to new students admitted to select programs for up to two years.No separate application required if FAFSA submitted to Graduate School Financial Aid department.
External Scholarships
This is to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship. The scholarships are for ethnic minorities and women interested in pursuing an advanced degree in a sports-related field.
The NCAA awards 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to women college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies. The one-time $6,000 scholarships are non-renewable grants awarded once per school year.
Awardees of the scholarship must be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies during the 2013-2014 academic year and have been accepted into a sports administration or other program that will help the applicant obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics. Awardees must be a full-time student at all times while using the award.
The application deadline is Thursday, December 1. Applicants can apply using the online submission system. For access to the online submission system, you may log onto https://web1.ncaa.org/epps/exec/appform.
Official transcript(s) must arrive, not postmarked on or before December 1, in order for the application to be considered.
