By Kym Atkin, Betty Jo Flett, Cheryl Fry, Ken Gibson, David Hopkins and Elicia Walker
For board members: 1 hour

This training module was developed in the Master of Not-for-Profit Leadership Program (MNPL) at Seattle University. One of the goals for the MNPL program is to strengthen and enhance nonprofit board and organizational effectiveness. In progress towards that goal, six graduate students designed this module, Understanding Core Values – A guide for your organization.

At the completion of this training module the participants will be able to:

  • Facilitate a discussion about core values.
  • Design a collaborative process to help an organization identify its core values.
  • Choose and administer tools to help identify both personal and organizational core values.
  • Discuss ways to communicate core values
  • Discuss ways to evaluate core value effectiveness in the organization.

The complete packet includes seven (PDF and Microsoft Word) files. To make up a presentation notebook, download all seven (zipped) for printing and binding.
