Internships are strongly recommended for those students who seek to test new career paths, gain skills, and forge connections with practioners in the field. Employers seek out our students because of their maturity, technical skills, and cutting-edge theoretical knowledge. To start looking for an internship please contact the MPA Coordinator. In the mean time, please read Section D: Supplemental Course Information in the MPA Handbook for more information.

The IPS faculty and staff work together with The Albers Placement Center and the Career Development Center to provide practical career development services to students. The Institute sponsors career events such as Job Club, a Public Administration Career Night, and symposia.

The MPA Coordinator provides advice and support to students on an individual and group basis on such topics as resume and cover letter writing, job search strategies, and interviewing. The coordinator is the principal contact for those seeking to communicate with over 850 alumni employed throughout the U.S. and abroad for networking purposes.

The MPA graduate student association represents student interests to the faculty and administration. The group also sponsors social and career events, represents the newly formed local chapter of the national public administration honor society, Pi Alpha Alpha, and collaborates with other club organizations on community service projects.
