Our Mission

Seattle University's Institute of Public Service educates working professionals for positions of responsibility and leadership in the public service. The Institute, consistent with the mission of Seattle University, aims 'to prepare students who can help build through service a just and peaceful community.' The MPA program reflects this social justice mission of the University.

Students and graduates are expected to meet high standards of professionalism, trust and stewardship. The Institute's academic program is responsive to the evolving character of the public service and to the changing problems our public leaders confront.

The Institute serves neighboring communities and the region through applied research, collaborations, training, consultation and public policy forums.

The MPA Offers

  • A state-of-the-art curriculum emphasizing experiential learning
  • A blend of management theory and public policy analysis
  • A specialization in nonprofit management or local government administration
  • Small classes, averaging 20 per class, offered evenings and Saturdays
  • An MPA degree in two to three years while enrolled part-time
  • The choice of fall, winter, spring, or summer start dates
  • Mentorship, internship, and independent study options
  • Access to alumni networks
