Welcome to the German Program Website at Seattle University!

Germany is at the center of European integration. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, German unification in 1990, and the expansion of the European Union in 2004 put Germany back into the political and geographical center of Europe. These years, Berlin is without doubt the most dynamic city in the heart of Europe.

The immeasurable cultural riches of central Europe, German influence in world history, literature, religion, sciences, - especially ecology and programs for a sustainable future -provide excellent reasons for studying German. The growing political and economic weight of Europe in the world, and the newly evolving definition of the intense transatlantic partnership between the U.S. and Germany enable the speaker of German to be trained and ready to participate in a global future.

The German Program at Seattle University prepares students for careers with/in Europe, opening up opportunities for scholarly pursuits, business and trade ventures, government and foreign services, tourism, and other services. Additionally, the German program at Seattle University fulfills the language requirement of the College of Arts and Science.

Seattle University students of German, in cooperation with Karl-Franzens University in Graz, are encouraged to study in the beautiful city of Graz, one of the chosen European cities of world cultural heritage.
