1. What are the
first-year Chinese courses?
The first-year Chinese courses
include CHIN115, CHIN125, CHIN135 which are offered during the regular
school sessions.
CHIN115, CHIN125 and CHIN135
carry 5 credits each. These are three parts of a one-year study at the
first-year level. CHIN115 is open to those who do not speake any Chinese,
including Mandarin Chinese and other Chinese dialects. It is highly
recommended that students finish the whole series in order to take advantage
of the foundemental training to make worth their investment.

2. What
about the textbooks used?
Currently both the first-year
and second-year courses use "Integrated Chinese," a set of
three books (textbook, workbook and character book). Some other textbooks
and materials are also used by the courses to supplement the main textbook
for the course.

3.
I think I'm over-qualified for the CHI115-135 series, but I just want
to get an "A" to increase my GPA, so can I take the CHI115/135
series anyway?
No, we recommend you choose
your Chinese course based on the information provided here. If in doubt,
please consult your instructor. Note that early diagnostic actions taken
would prevent any disappointment and even academic jeopardy as might
otherwise be caused.

4. What are the
second-year Chinese coures?
The second-year Chinese
courses include CHIN215, CHIN 225 and CHIN 235, which are the three
parts of the second-year level (see Courses
for detailed course descriptions). Students are encouraged to take
all three in order to take full advantage of these content-rich and
high credit-bearing courses.

5. Can
I take lower number language courses after or while taking a higher number
course?
If you have already taken or are taking a higher number course, you
can not take any lower number courses. This appplies to all language
courses at the 100 through 300 levels currently.

6.
Can I exampt the foreign language requirment by taking a Chinese language
test?
Yes, the test is normally administered one week before the class begins.
Please contact the Chinese Program for the specific dates and times
for the test.
7.
Is there any technical support for the Chinese language course-related
computing?
