The service-learning components were integrated into the second-year Chinese language courses (CHIN225 & CHIN235) at Seattle University in the winter and spring quarters 2005. The purpose of the components is to enhance the Chinese curriculum that focuses on the students' communicative competence while enriching their skills in the multicultural world and injecting in them a sense of social responsibility.
