Instrumental music at Seattle University has never been more exciting. This year, we welcome Quinton I. Morris (featured above) to the dynamic fine arts faculty as Director of Chamber and Instrumental Music. Under his leadership, the fine arts department will offer a brand new degree program to launch in Fall 2008: a Bachelor of Music in String Performance*.
*subject to approval of the Seattle University Board of Trustees.
The new Bachelor of Music in String Performance at Seattle University will be the first professional degree program of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, offering students a concentration in solo and chamber music performance. All students who play violin, viola, violoncello and bass are eligible to apply and audition for the degree program.
This unique Bachelor of Music degree will allow students to receive conservatory-like training while obtaining a liberal arts education. Students will receive individualized attention within a small cohort, with a focus on professionalism and entrepreneurship in solo and chamber music performance. Students will train with Artists in Residence string octet, The Young Eight, performing in regularly scheduled master classes, clinics and coachings.
Students will learn to become great concert artists in a rising and competitive music world. Students will also develop leadership and professional skills needed to make significant contributions to their respective communities. Most importantly, students will learn how to become better performing artists and citizens by creating innovative ideas to build stronger, more diverse audiences.
Students must receive admission to Seattle University and have a successful audition, in order to be admitted into the program. Interested students must submit an admissions application and contact Quinton Morris, Director of Chamber and Instrumental Music at (206) 296-2699 or morrisq@seattleu.edu to arrange an audition. Students must prepare a three octave scale, an etude, a fast movement from a standard concerto, a movement of Bach and a piece of your choice.
