Instrumental music at Seattle University has never been more exciting. Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Quinton I. Morris (featured above left), Director of Chamber and Instrumental Music, the fine arts department offers a new degree program: a Bachelor of Music in String Performance. The Bachelor of Music in String Performance at Seattle University is the first professional degree program of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, offering students a concentration in solo and chamber music performance. All students who play violin, viola, violoncello and bass are eligible to apply and audition for the degree program. This unique Bachelor of Music degree allows students to receive conservatory-like training while obtaining a liberal arts education. Students receive individualized attention within a small cohort, with a focus on professionalism and entrepreneurship in solo and chamber music performance. Students train with Artists in Residence string octet, The Young Eight, performing in regularly scheduled master classes, clinics and coachings. Students learn to become great concert artists in a rising and competitive music world. Students also develop leadership and professional skills needed to make significant contributions to their respective communities. Most importantly, students learn how to become better performing artists and citizens by creating innovative ideas to build stronger, more diverse audiences.
