Titus Andronicus, directed by Theatre Professor Rosa Joshi, received a 2012 Seattle Times Footlight Award. The awards, given by Seattle Times theater critic Misha Berson, recognize outstanding actors and productions. Titus Andronicus was one of three productions of plays by Shakespeare singled out for excellence. Joshi’s version of the play featured an all-female cast. “Titus Andronicus” is a very violent play, that explores the barbarism and brutality that lurks under the surface of civilized veneers and how revenge destroys our humanity,” Joshi said. “The all-female approach made the cast and creative team grapple with our gendered conceptions of violence and also allowed for a dozen highly accomplished female actors to perform roles that would otherwise be played by men.”
Joshi received her MFA in directing from the Yale School of Drama. She joined the Fine Arts faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences in 2000. She has also taught at Hong Kong University and Hong Kong Academy of the Performing Arts. The College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college in Seattle University, offers 42 undergraduate majors, 37 minors, and 7 advanced degrees, including an MFA in Arts Leadership.
