    Biography

I have been a Core Lecturer in the History Department at Seattle University for the past six years. My graduate work focused on issues of national identity in Central and Eastern Europe during the Cold War. My teaching interests are much more varied, but all examine the notion of identity in some way. At SU, I have taught courses on modern East and West Europe, Imperial Russia, the European Middle Ages, historical methodology, revolutionary women in Europe, and the global history of the woman's movement. I also teach in the Freshman Seminar program and am the faculty director of the Oscar Romero Diversity Learning Community. I have a special interest in working with freshman students, and am currently working on a journal article on the pedagogy of teaching history to university freshmen. I enjoy spending free time with my family (which will soon grow to four, with the birth of a second daughter expected around Halloween), reading non-history books (I'm currently reading Margaret Atwood's latest novel, The Year of the Flood), and playing with my yellow lab, Belle (yes, her name is "Belle Pepper"!).
