    Biography

    Verna McKinnon was born in Omaha, Nebraska. From an early age, she loved everything science fiction and fantasy--the only genres on television that allowed women to be more than an apron baking a pie. Her first heroine was Mrs. Peel from The Avengers.  At the University of Nebraska at Omaha, she studied theater and developed a love for Shakespeare and the Greek classics, considering them health food for the mind. She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.   Her love of writing made her pursue her interests in fiction-especially speculative fiction.  A published author of many short stories and two novels, Verna has had over twenty short stories published in Aberrant Dreams, Mystic Signals, Scribal Tales Webzine, Descending Darkness, High Fantasy Online, Chaos Theory-Tales Askew, Aphelion Webzine, Gothic Revue, and Fantasy World Geographic.   Her fantasy novel, Gate of Souls, A Familiar’s Tale Book was published in 2008 & her next book, Tree of Bones, the second in the Familiar’s Tale book series, will be released soon.  Verna’s Familiar’s Tale fantasy series is scheduled for four books.  Verna is also writing more novels and short stories. 

    Verna lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband, author Rick Hipps, and their two cats.
