The Reverend Louis Gaffney, S.J. Chair in the College of Arts and Sciences, which is made possible by the Jesuit community at Seattle University, promotes issues germane to the Jesuit mission and identity of the faith that does justice and supports the Jesuit ideal of teaching.
Seattle University President Stephen Sundborg, S.J., has appointed Psychology Professor Le Xuan Hy as the Reverend Louis Gaffney, S.J. , Chair in the College of Arts and Sciences. Made possible by the Jesuit community at Seattle University, the Gaffney Chair promotes issues related to the Jesuit commitment to faith that does justice and supports the Jesuit ideal of teaching. Hy will address the theme "Gratitude” through a series of events during his two-year appointment.
Hy received Ph.D. in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. His research and scholarship focus on multicultural psychology, multicultural leadership, psychology of religion and growth and development. His most recent book is Fostering Spiritual and Psychological Development / Mở cửa tâm linh (bilingual, St. Michael Baton Rouge, LA, 2013). He plans to edit a book on the topic of gratitude, particularly as it relates to Ignatian spirituality.
In addition to his teaching in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the School of Theology and Ministry, Hy directs the university’s Institute for Human Development, conducts training workshops for religious leaders, and serves on the editorial board of PsycCRITIQUES produced by the American Psychological Association.
