Education

Greetings!

I am delighted you are visiting the web site associated with our conference, The Soul of Youth Sport: Discovering the Life-Giving Dimensions, which will take place from June 27-29, 2008 at Seattle University.

We have decided to make some changes in our conference format for this year to better accommodate coaches and interested others in the Seattle area and beyond who would like to attend. Rather than having a conference on the larger scale we had originally planned, we are planning a smaller symposium type weekend. The presentations made at the conference will be the basis for an edited volume, the first of its kind on this topic.

This means that attendance at the conference presentations and workshops is free and open to the public.

The schedule of presenters and workshop leaders remains the same as it was before. These scholars and practitioners are some of the leading figures in the area of youth sport, and this is a great opportunity to come and learn from their experience and insights on this topic. Washington residents will still be able to earn 1 SU credit or 10 clock hours by attending the conference.

Unfortunately, our new format will not allow us to make arrangements for lodging for attendees, if you are coming from out of town. Nor will it include meals.

Finally, we will have to postpone having Lenny Wilkens to campus. We look forward to the time in the near future when we will be able to benefit from Coach Wilkens’ years of wisdom and experience on sport as a context for human and spiritual growth.

If you plan on attending the conference, please simply confirm this with an email to me at pkelly@seattleu.edu or by leaving a phone message at 206 296-2816. It is important that you do so in order that we are sure we have the right size venues for our presentations and workshops. You will be able to sign up and pay for credit hours or clock hours at the conference.

We will be posting more specific information on this web site about the location of presentations and workshops and other practical information as we get closer to the event.

Sincerely,

Fr. Patrick Kelly, S.J., Ph.D.
