SEATTLE UNIVERSITY WELLNESS AND SPORT PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni of Seattle University are invited to participate in the Wellness and Sport Performance Program, a scientifically based, personally designed program to optimize your health, nurture a life-long commitment to personal exercise, and improve your performance in recreational sport.

Through an individualized fitness assessment and exercise prescription, training programs are designed by a qualified staff of fitness and exercise professionals to address your personal goals. Whether you want to hike in the mountains, function well at work, manage your weight, or recover from an injury, training options are available for individuals of all ages and capabilities.

SERVICES OFFERED

Fitness Assessment (60 minutes)
Using a number of evaluative tests and techniques, staff will identify and explain your current fitness profile so you will have the information and confidence to initiate and maintain a regular
training plan, begin at your own level, seek reachable goals with as much or as little supervision as you may need.

Measurement of Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) - more information

Maximal Oxygen Consumption - more information

Exercise Prescription (60-minutes)
Following the assessment, staff will design a comprehensive training plan for a specified purpose that includes the type of exercise or activity, workout intensity, frequency and duration of activity or exercise session, schedule of training adjustments across time, and precautions related to overtraining, age, and existing health conditions.

Personal Coaching (30-minutes)
Staff will supervise your cardiovascular or musculoskeletal workout confirming proper exercise technique and training intensity, modify your current exercise activity as needed, and provide a fuller understanding of the science behind the training.

Mental Training (30-minutes)
Staff will develop actions plans to facilitate your sport and exercise activities. These include goal setting, activating or revitalizing motivation, heightening concentration, visualizing and mentally rehearsing proficient performance, reducing anxiety, and building confidence.

Nutritional Counseling and Planning (60-minutes)
Staff will review calorie and nutrient levels in your meals and assess your dietary lifestyle. These data enable staff to advise your food choices for weight management or for fueling sport and exercise activity.

Sport & Rehabilitative Massage (60-minutes)
Staff will apply sport and rehabilitative massage techniques to reduce stresses on your joints, ligaments, and tendons, release muscle tension and restore balance to the musculoskeletal system to mitigate discomfort and help prevent injury.

The 2006-2007 cost for the Wellness and Sport Performance Program is $105 for Alumni, $75 for Faculty and Staff, and $25 for Students. The fee enables you to receive a fitness assessment, exercise prescription, and two hours of additional services which can include personal coaching, mental training, nutritional counseling and planning, or sport and rehabilitative massage. Extended services are available on a fee basis.

LOCATION
Services provided by the Seattle University Wellness and Sport Performance Program are delivered in the Center for CardioVascular Wellness in Suite 100 at the James Tower located at 500 18th Avenue on the Swedish Medical Center Providence campus.
