Several requests have come in for a series on the movements of ‘modernism’ and ‘post modernism’ in the fields of art, architecture, and literature in the past century. Seattle University’s experts on these movements will lead the six spring seminars on major artists from Picasso and Kandinsky to contemporary post-modernists, as well as on major architects like Frank Gehry, or on fiction writers from Virginia Woolf to Thomas Pynchon. Experts in contemporary art include Kenneth Allan and Naomi Hume of the Seattle University Fine Arts Department. Leading discussions of architecture will be presented by Paul Kidder from the Philosophy Department. Contemporary modern and post-modern fiction will be explored by Charles Tung of the English Department.
Taught by Seattle University faculty and special guests, the Executive and Alumni Seminars are open to Seattle University alumni and other college graduates in the Seattle area who seek a high-quality learning experience, stimulating discussions of life's deeper questions, and the companionship of other active minds.
