 Spring Alumni Seminar Series (open to all)

From Modern to Post-Modern: Art, Architecture, Literature

Several requests have come in for a series on the movements of ‘modernism’ and ‘post modernism’ in the fields of art, architecture, and literature in the past century.  Seattle University’s experts on these movements will lead the six spring seminars on major artists from Picasso and Kandinsky to contemporary post-modernists, as well as on major architects like Frank Gehry, or on fiction writers from Virginia Woolf to Thomas Pynchon.  Experts in contemporary art include Kenneth Allan and Naomi Hume of the Seattle University Fine Arts Department.  Leading discussions of architecture will be presented by Paul Kidder from the Philosophy Department.   Contemporary modern and post-modern fiction will be explored by Charles Tung of the English Department.

Dates:  Tuesdays,  March 29, April 12 & 26, May 10 & 24, June 7.  6:00 – 8:30pm 

Taught by Seattle University faculty and special guests, the Executive and Alumni Seminars are open to Seattle University alumni and other college graduates in the Seattle area who seek a high-quality learning experience, stimulating discussions of life's deeper questions, and the companionship of other active minds.

Enrollment:

These non-credit seminars run for six sessions of two-and-a-half hours each, and are open to any persons with some university background.  You may sign up for any of these Alumni Seminars by sending your mailing address and phone number to  Lauren St. Pierre, Administrative Assistant by e-mail at alumniseminars@seattleu.edu.

The fee for the spring seminar is $275, which includes books, refreshments, and materials. Complimentary reserved parking is available upon request. Payment for the seminar may be made by personal check, MasterCard, or VISA.

 

Service in Action Seminars

Designed for nonprofit and public service professionals, these seminars feature experts from a variety of disciplines and focus on best practices and trends. Offered by the Master of Public Administration and Executive Mater of Nonprofit Leadership programs.
