The Future of Africa
Journey to the ancient continent of Africa with its many cultures and traditions as it is now emerging into a globalized and challenging world. To guide you on your journey are Professors Saheed Adejumobi and Femi Taiwo of Seattle University’s Global African Studies Program, Connie Anthony of the Political Science Department, and Chris Weber of the Alber’s School of Business and Economics. We will begin with two sessions on the recent history of Africa and its current situation at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Then we will examine its economic future in its own region and in relation to the rest of the world. Finally, we will end with two sessions on the political and cultural future of Africa.
Saheed Adejumobi, PhD, has an M.A. in African Studies from the University of Oregon and a PhD in modern West African History from the University of Texas at Austin. A native of Nigeria, he recently published a book length study of Ethiopia.
Connie Anthony, PhD, serves as chair of the Political Science Department and has recently returned from a month of study in South Africa. She has a particular interest in international development and politics.
Olufemi Taiwo, PhD, earned his doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Toronto. Born in Nigeria, he has lived in England, Canada, and the U.S., where he taught at Loyola University, Chicago before coming to create the Global African Studies Program and teach Philosophy at SU in 2001.
Christian Weber, PhD, teaches global Economics in the Albers School of Business and Economics at SU. He specializes in international and African economic issues and has taught in the Alumni Seminars Program.
