Homework Assignment

Complete the following before your advising appointment: 

1. Review the degree requirements on your SU Program Evaluation (mailed with your acceptance packet) or available on SU Online. Write down your questions and concerns.  

2. Compare this with the requirements for your intended major and the Core Curriculum as described in the Catalog. 

3. Draft an Educational Plan for your degree program by using the Typical Program of Study and Two Year Course Offerings. Use the Academic Planning Form to develop your plan. We will review your plan during the session. Juniors (90 or more completed credits) should plan for 1-2 major classes and 1-2 Core or College classes per quarter; freshmen and sophomores (less than 90 completed credits) should plan on 0-1 major classes and 2-3 Core or College classes per quarter. You can take up to 18 credits in your first quarter; a normal load is 15 credits, consisting of 3 five credit classes.  

4. Search/Register for Classes on SU Online.  Click on Students, then Search for Classes. Please note the following:  

•  Use last year's quarter if the upcoming quarter isn’t yet available for viewing.    
•  Select three top class choices and 3-5 back-ups. Choose open classes first but if there are none, choose closed classes. In some cases, there are hidden seats especially for new transfer and readmit students.  
•  There are two short videos on the Student Menu of SU Online to help you navigate more efficiently.

5. Bring your entire acceptance packet and a copy of your latest unofficial transcript to the appointment.
