Kevin Maifeld, Director of the MFA in Arts Leadership program, has started the “American Journal of Arts Management” with David Edelman of Shenandoah University. The online journal bridges the scholarly divide between academia and professional nonprofit performing arts organizations. Publication is scheduled for January, April, and August.
The journal is designed as a resource for teachers, students, and members of arts organizations. Articles will focus on all aspects of nonprofit arts management including advocacy, leadership, fundraising, audience development, and marketing.
“This is a peer-reviewed journal,” said Maifeld. “Our editorial board is comprised of distinguished members of leading arts organizations and academic institutions.”
The deadline for submissions for the first issue is December 1, 2011.
The journal is free, but registration is required.
Maifeld holds an MFA degree in Arts Management from the University of Alabama and has extensive experience in nonprofit arts management. He is the Founding Director of the MFA in Arts Leadership and Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences.
The MFA program, which accepted its first students in 2007, was granted full membership in the Association of Arts Administration Educators in 2010. The MFA is one of seven advanced degree programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college in Seattle University.
