  • Sustainable Development at the Grassroots: Chiapas, Mexico

    History Department  Professors Tom Taylor  (left), Director of the Global Awareness Program , and Marc McLeod , Director of International Studies , welcome to campus Verónica Fernández de Castroand Paco Meneses, who work for the Center for Indigenous Rights and the Jesuit Mission of Bachajón in Chiapas, Mexico. Their struggle for recognition, equality, and autonomy in Chiapas has become an international symbol for the struggle for indigenous rights. A discussion about how locally-led social change development programs emerge from Tseltal communities and how these communities are responding to the complex social, political and economic reality in Mexico is set for Wednesday, November 17, at 12 noon in Pigott 101.
