  • Debate Team Dominates in First Competition

    November 4, 2010

    The Seattle University  Debate Team  dominated the competition at the 80th Annual Mahaffey Memorial Debate Tournament held at Linfield College last month. SU competed against 18 schools from throughout the Pacific Northwest and took top honors, including several in the novice division for students who are in their first year of collegiate competition. Honors went to these SU Arts and Sciences debate team participants for their outstanding presentations:

    1st Place in Open Debate: Sophia Sanders and Ben Watts
    1st Place in Novice Debate: Brock Parker and Karen Lauer
    4th Speaker in Open Debate: Sophia Sanders
    6th Speaker in Open Debate: Ben Watts
    1st Speaker in Novice Debate: Brock Parker
    3rd Speaker in Novice Debate: Karen Lauer
    5th Speaker in Novice Debate: Raman Khanna

    The Debate Team, coached by Adjunct Professor Chris Richter, is a program of the Communication Department  in the College of Arts and Sciences , which offers 33 undergraduate degree programs and 7 advanced degree programs.
