  • Morris Awarded Arts Grant

    July 2, 2010

Quinton I. Morris, Assistant Professor of Music, received an Individual Artist Project Award from 4Culture, the organization that provides support for artists who live in King County. He received the award for preservation and performance of sonatas for violin and keyboardof Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges. Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges was born on the island of Guadeloupe where his father was a plantation owner and his mother was a slave. Written during the 18th century, Saint-Georges’s music was a favorite of French royalty but has been largely ignored until recently. Morris has been instrumental in regenerating new interest in the composer and his work.

In addition to his teaching, Professor Morris is the Director of Chamber and Instrumental Music and Violinist/Artistic Director of The Young Eight. He is scheduled to give his first Carnegie Hall recital in January 2011.  The King County arts awards are designed to provide local visitors and residents with high quality arts experiences.
