Seattle University student Andrew Battaglia was awarded a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for full-time study at the Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany, beginning in January 2011. Battaglia, who is pursuing a philosophy major and German minor, has been studying German for one year. The $6,800 grant covers living expenses and includes a small travel stipend.
According to David Powers, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, more than 500 students study abroad in 45 countries each year while earning credit toward their degrees. The College of Arts and Sciences offers a wide range of academic programs, including 33 undergraduate majors, 33 undergraduate minors, 7 graduate degrees, and 1 post-graduate certificate.
