Four faculty and staff gave a panel presentation at the 14th National Conference of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) in Seattle. Presenters were Judy Solberg (director of instructional and public services in Lemieux Library), Larry Nichols (director of the Writing Center), Jeff Philpott (assistant professor of communications and director of Core Curriculum) and Anne Mohundro (director of Learning Assistance Programs in the Learning Center). Their presentation, “Weaving a New Net: Hauling Multiple Services into a New Learning Commons,” drew more than 100 attendees—at the early hour of 8 a.m. on a Saturday, no less!—to learn how this promising collaboration was initiated and is developing at SU. Solberg, Nichols, Philpott and Mohundro will be working together in the Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons when it opens in fall 2010 to provide a “one-stop shop” for students seeking assistance with research, writing, learning and oral presentations.
