Theology and Religious Studies Professor Beatrice Lawrence presents “Notes from the Fire” as the Naef Scholars “Last Lecture” on April 25. Lawrence was chosen by Naef Scholars who asked that she discuss a topic important to her intellectual life as if it were her last lecture.
“The lecture picks up on the motif in the Hebrew Bible of God ‘refining’ the people through a fiery furnace and refers to painful experiences, intense struggles, and what they teach,” Lawrence said.
“Notes from the Fire” takes place at 7 p.m. on April 25, 2013, in Bannan 102. This event is free and open to the public.
The Naef Scholarship Program, funded from the estate of Sue Naef, supports financially and educationally full-time upper-level undergraduate students.
Lawrence, who received her PhD from Emory University, teaches Hebrew Bible and Jewish Studies.
The College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college in Seattle University, offers 42 undergraduate majors, 37 minors, and 7 advanced degrees.
