The 10th annual “Psychology for the Other,” the Levinas Seminar, features Professor Claire Katz. She will address “Levinas and the Maternal Psyche: How Feminist Theory Informs Our Encounter with the Other” on November 10.

Katz, who teaches at Texas A&M, focuses her scholarship on feminist theory, philosophy of religion, philosophy of education, and Emmanuel Levinas. Emmanuel Levinas, a 20th century French philosopher and Talmudic scholar, emphasized personal ethical responsibility to others as the starting point and primary focus for philosophy. He died in Paris in 1995.

The Levinas Seminar is held annually by the Psychology Department in the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest college in Seattle University. In addition to a broad undergraduate program, the college offers 7 master's degrees, including an M.A. in Psychology based on the existential, phenomenological, therapeutic approach.
