Arts & Sciences Hosts PAMLA conference; Sandra Cisneros to Speak

The 2012 annual meeting of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association takes place in Seattle October 19 – 21. The association promotes literary, linguistic, and cultural interests, both ancient and modern, in the United States and abroad. PAMLA members include faculty and students in language and literature departments in colleges and universities, as well as interdisciplinary scholars from other disciplines and independent scholars. The conference is the 110th annual meeting of the association.

Award-winning writer Sandra Cisneros gives the keynote address on Friday, October 19.  Her books have been translated into more than 20 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Norwegian, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish, Greek, and Egyptian. She is the president and founder of the Macondo Foundation, an association of socially engaged writers working to advance creativity, foster generosity, and honor our communities; and the Alfredo Cisneros Del Moral Foundation, a grant-giving institution serving Texas writers. Cisneros is currently Writer-in-Residence at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
